A 21-YEAR-OLD Launceston man has been sentenced to 105 hours of community service for kicking a stranger in the head in George St three years ago.Sentencing Alexander Clay Cadman in the Launceston Supreme Court this afternoon, Chief Justice Ewan Crawford said the assault occurred after Cadman’s friend got into a fight with another man.The victim suffered grievous injures and was hospitalised for a week.“Aggravating factors are that the crime involved gratuitous violence towards a stranger in a public street,” Chief Justice Crawford said.“Such crimes deserve public condemnation.“Perhaps (Cadman) is fortunate that the injuries could not be sheeted home to his one act of violence _ for if that had been the case, I would be sending him to jail,” he said.Chief Justice Crawford warned Cadman he could still be sent to prison if he did not comply with the conditions of his community service order.
