Corrective area loses $2.7m

THE state’s corrective services have had a $2.7 million budget cut as the State Government works achieve savings in response the global financial crisis. The only major prisons project mentioned in the budget is the planning for the construction of an additional maximum security block at Risdon Prison, which is not due to begin until 2010-11. Cost a prisoner day has increased from $248 in 2006-07 to $256 in 2007-08 but the target for 2008-09 and 2009-10 is $240.
