Industrial dispute

The Tasmanian Industrial Commission began hearing an industrial dispute between the State Government and legal practitioners yesterday. In late May, the State Government withdrew from an industrial agreement with legal practitioners. But the Community and Public Sector Union said that the Government had pulled out to avoid paying a salary increase of about 5 per cent, even though the agreement was still in place on March 31, when the obligation to lift salaries occurred. The hearing, before Commissioner McAlpine, will continue on Tuesday.
