Launcestonswine flu clinic to move out of Silverdome

LAUNCESTON’S swine flu clinic will soon be moved away from the Silverdome, allowing elite cyclists to return to training and other major events to go ahead. The Northern regional health emergency committee is expected to meet today to discuss the situation, following the change in the flu category to `protect’ status.Regional medical co-ordinator for emergency management Peter Renshaw said he would recommend a change of location for the clinic but a decision would have to be made by the entire committee. It is not known where the clinic would relocate to.The decision to base the clinic at the Silverdome in the first place had raised the ire of some businesses and sporting groups who were affected by the immediate closure of the centre for general use.It is understood the Tasmanian Institute of Sport was forced to send elite cyclists to Adelaide to prepare for world championship events while indoor netball games were cancelled because alternative venues could not be sourced. There had also been concerns about the upheaval the clinic caused to events such as the Housing Industry Association’s building renovation expo. Those impacted by the clinic will not be reimbursed for any losses.
