About 20 people rallied outside the Launceston ANZ bank yesterday in support of the Bell Bay pulp mill. They delivered an open letter that called on the bank to deny or confirm its involvement with anti-pulp mill campaigns. Timber Communities Australia Northern regional coordinator Eva Down said environmental and economic factors had been distorted by pulp mill opponents. “Our combined message today is that financial institutions like ANZ need to assess the development on its merits, understanding that our community is supportive of the mill going ahead,” she said.
