MELBOURNE – Novelist Tim Winton has won his fourth Miles Franklin Literary Award, Australia’s most prestigious literary prize. The West Australian author was among five writers on the short list for the award, with the winner announced at the NSW State Library in Sydney. Winton, who last won the prize in 2002, was nominated for his novel Breath, about surfing and lost youth in 1970s Western Australia. “It’s been a strong year for Australian novels,” Winton said. “I’m stoked, of course.”
